How to Perfect the Under-Eye Makeup Look

How to Perfect the Under-Eye Makeup Look

If you love Japanese and Korean beauty trends, you’ve probably seen the aegyosal look, known as namidabukuro (or tear bag) look in Japan. This undereye look features natural-looking puff under your eyes that makes them appear brighter, softer, and more youthful. It’s a staple in J-Beauty and K-Beauty, and with the right products from Rei Cosmetics, it’s easy to recreate.

Step 1: Prep the Under-Eye Area

Start with a clean, moisturized face. Use a hydrating eye cream and a lightweight concealer just where needed. Then set very lightly, using a finely milled powder so the under‐eye doesn’t look flat.

Step 2: Create the Soft Under-Eye Shadow

Use a soft brown eyeliner to create a shadow. Lightly draw a line right below the puffy portion of your under-eye, starting below the iris and stopping halfway across your eye. If you cannot easily find the right location, try smiling into the mirror to see where the natural shadow exists. Blend the shadow gently downward with your finger or a small brush to create a subtle shadow that mimics a natural puff.

Step 2: Highlight the Puff

Apply a light shimmer or pearl-toned eyeshadow directly above the shadow you just made. This step brightens the under-eye and makes the “puff” appear lifted. Look for finely milled shimmer shades in the eyeshadow palettes for a smooth, natural glow.

Step 3: Finish the Eye Look

Keep the upper lid makeup simple, using soft tones from the same eyeshadow palette as Step 2 and a thin eyeliner from Step 1. Curl your lashes and apply the mascara to open up your eyes. Feel free to apply the mascara on both the top and bottom lashes.

Pro Tip

The key to aegyosal or namidabukuro eye makeup is subtlety. Avoid harsh lines or heavy shimmer. The look should feel like a natural brightness under your eyes, not obvious makeup.
