How will U.S. tariffs impact Rei Cosmetics?

How will U.S. tariffs impact Rei Cosmetics?

You may have heard the recent buzz about new U.S. tariffs being introduced on imports from around the globe. The current administration has announced sweeping tariff plans targeting a wide range of industries and trade partners—and unfortunately, Japanese cosmetics are on the list.

So what does that mean for Rei Cosmetics, and more importantly, for you?

What Are Tariffs, and Why Do They Matter?

Tariffs are taxes imposed by the government on imported goods. When the U.S. applies a tariff to a product from another country, it becomes more expensive for American businesses to import that product—and those increased costs typically get passed on to consumers.

While tariffs are often meant to protect domestic industries, retaliate in trade disputes, or reduce trade deficits, they can have unintended consequences. Even brands that manufacture in the U.S. are affected if they source ingredients, packaging, or components from overseas.

In the cosmetics world, that global supply chain is the norm - not the exception.

What This Means for Rei Cosmetics

At Rei Cosmetics, we proudly specialize in high-quality Japanese beauty products, imported directly from Japan. Almost all our offerings are made in Japan using Japanese ingredients and packaging, and we work closely with trusted distributors to ship products to the U.S. and store inventory here domestically.

Unlike overseas marketplaces, we don’t ask our customers to handle customs duties—we take on those responsibilities to make your shopping experience as seamless as possible.

However, if the proposed tariffs on Japanese goods go into effect, here’s how it could affect your experience:

Higher Prices
U.S. tariffs on Japanese cosmetics would mean higher import costs for our distributors and for us. Unfortunately, that could lead to increased retail prices on many of the products you know and love.

Product Delays & Limited Stock
As suppliers and distributors navigate new rules and cost structures, shipping delays and temporary shortages may occur.

Slower Brand Expansion
Higher costs and uncertainty could make it more difficult for smaller or emerging Japanese beauty brands to enter the U.S. market—limiting innovation and the exciting new launches that drive the beauty space.

What We're Doing About It

While we can’t influence international trade policy directly, we’re actively working to reduce potential disruptions and minimize the impact on you.

Monitoring the Situation
We’re staying closely informed on policy developments and staying in regular contact with our distributors in Japan and the U.S.

Stocking Up Ahead of Tariffs
With the recent 90-day pause on tariffs for Japanese imports—announced on April 9, 2025—we’re taking steps to increase our inventory and prepare for the months ahead.

Remaining Optimistic
We’re hopeful that continued negotiations between Japan and the U.S. will prevent tariffs from being enacted once the 90-day window closes.

Beauty Is Global, and So Are Its Challenges

The beauty industry thrives on international innovation. When tariffs disrupt global trade, they also disrupt the flow of creativity, quality, and culture that makes the cosmetics world so vibrant.

At Rei Cosmetics, our mission remains the same: to bring you the best of Japanese beauty, with transparency and care. We’ll keep you informed every step of the way—and continue doing everything we can to make sure your skincare, makeup, and haircare routines remain uninterrupted.

Thanks for being part of the Rei Cosmetics community. 💖
