This past Oscars, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Sandy Nicha, a talented NYC-based makeup artist who created the look for Rei Ami, the singer behind Zoe in K-Pop Demon Hunters. We provided dejavu eye makeup (longtime favorites among makeup artists) and partnered on a “how to” video recreating Rei Ami’s Oscars look.
While the collaboration may feel obvious in hindsight, it was actually the result of months of discovery and conversation. It began with us finding Sandy’s incredible tutorials, especially her tips for Asian eyes. Around the same time, we became fans of K-Pop Demon Hunters and of Rei Ami herself, not only for her singing but also for her approachable personality (and yes, we couldn’t ignore the “Rei” connection). When we learned Sandy would be doing Rei Ami’s Oscars makeup, the opportunity to support her “how-to” content felt like the perfect alignment.
Watching Rei Ami and her co-stars on the red carpet and seeing them perform “Golden” at the Oscars was incredibly inspiring. To have played even a small part in that moment was truly an honor.
It was equally meaningful to support a makeup artist at such a pivotal point in her career. Behind every red-carpet moment are countless makeup artists, hairstylists, fashion stylists, PR teams whose skill, precision, and dedication bring it all to life. Their work may not always be in the spotlight, but it’s what makes these moments possible.
